The Kiezblocks für Mitte project was launched as a model project for pedestrian traffic in accordance with MobG §58 at the instigation of the Senate Department, and was put out to tender and commissioned by the Mitte Roads and Green Spaces Department (SGA). The project aims to identify 12 possible Kiezblocks, for which various participation measures have been and are planned. Prior to public participation , public interest groups – including the fire department, police and others – were involved.
The plans shown during the ongoing public participation process are conceptual plans that are made for the participations and not completed plans for measures. Accordingly, an assessment of the impact of these plans cannot yet have taken place. The district has received a commitment to finance the project, on the basis of which a call for tenders and the commissioning of a service provider has taken place.
In mid-May 2025, the SGA received a letter from the head office requesting that the project be stopped. The letter did not contain any reasons for the request to stop the project. The BA will examine the letter and trusts in the reliability of binding commitments. The neighborhood walks will continue to take place.
