Berlin Mitte is good.
Berlin Mitte should be even better.
There are many cars in Berlin Mitte.
There are many people in Berlin Mitte.
The streets are often crowded.
The air is often bad.
This bothers many people.
What can we do?
The streets are to become quieter.
These streets are called Kiezblocks.
What is a neighborhood?
A neighborhood is a small part of the city.
People live in a neighborhood.
And there are streets.
What is a Kiezblock?
A Kiezblock is a neighborhood where people can live well.
Cars will no longer drive through the streets everywhere.
People will have more space.
People will have more peace and quiet.
Who does that?
The staff at the Department of Roads in Berlin Mitte do this.
An office is a house in the city.
People work there.
People look after the streets.
The office gets help from other experts.
The experts are called planners.
Planners consider:
How can the roads be made better?
Where can I find the Kiezblocks?
The employees from the office look at all the neighborhoods in Berlin Mitte.
The employees consider:
Where does a quiet street fit in well?
You want to know:
What does that mean for me?
Can I express my ideas?
Yes, you can have your say.
Your opinion is important.
Why do we need neighborhood blocks?
More and more people are living in Berlin Mitte.
20 years ago, fewer people lived here.
Today, 80,000 more people live here.
But the streets haven’t gotten any bigger.
People have less space.
There are lots of cars, vans and e-scooters.
This is often dangerous.
The air is bad.
There is a lot of noise.
There are often traffic jams.
It’s exhausting for everyone.
The space must therefore be better distributed.
Everyone should be able to walk safely on the street.
Everyone should be able to breathe better.
You can help.
Kiezblocks make Mitte better:
- More peace and quiet
- Better air
- Safe routes for pedestrians
- Safe routes for cyclists
The best thing is:
You can still use your car.
You can still reach all houses by car.
Ambulances and garbage trucks can also drive everywhere.
Only the routes by car may be different.
12 neighborhood blocks by 2026
Not all streets will be made quieter immediately.
But there are to be 12 new neighborhood blocks by 2026.
That’s how it works:
The office staff look at all the neighborhoods.
28 neighborhoods are selected.
These 28 neighborhoods are being tested:
Where does a neighborhood block fit in well?
You can write down your opinion on the Internet.
The website explains how to do this.
The staff at the office will read your opinion.
Then the employees make a plan.
A plan is a drawing.
On the drawing you can see:
This is what the neighborhood block could look like.
You can view the plan on the Internet.
You can say whether you like the plan.
In some neighborhoods there is a tour.
A tour is a walk together.
During the tour, the employees show the streets.
They explain:
This is set to change.
In the end, up to 12 neighborhoods are selected.
The neighborhood blocks are built there.
Construction will begin in summer 2025.
The neighborhood blocks will be ready in spring 2026.
Later, the employees take a look:
Are the neighborhood blocks good?
Do people feel comfortable?
You want to join in?
Then click on the website:
It says:
How can you take part?

Want to know if your neighborhood is included?
Then click on the website:
You can find a list there.
The list includes all neighborhoods
